CETLALIC announces the creation of the CILAC Freire Project
Dear friends, colleagues, former students and close contacts of CETLALIC:
We hope you are well and that your lives and activities are also going as well as possible. We are writing to you again to thank you all for the support you have given us over these 28 plus years of existence and constant struggle to keep this project going. Without each and everyone one of you it would have been very difficult to endure. We are continuing the battle and also becoming stronger.
This time we want to share with you the creation of the new CILAC FREIRE Project (Paulo Freire International Center for Language, Art and Culture) recently created in Cuernavaca. CILAC Freire is a sister project which will carry out various activities in the areas described by its full name.
In addition to teaching Spanish to foreigners, CILAC Freire will organize classes in other languages (English, French, Nahuatl and others if possible) for the Mexican community using the Paulo Freire methodology to practice these language. This is aimed at fostering exchange between Spanish language students and the local community.
The project will also support and foster artistic activities by Mexican individuals and groups in our community using our facilities as meeting spaces among those interested in doing this. Art will be another tool with which to share the flavor and knowledge of Mexican reality and what happens outside of our locality. When foreign artists are here, workshops or talks will be held to exchange experiences.
In addition, as CETLALIC has been doing, CILAC Freire will continue to support various independent organizations that are struggling to meet some of the social, political and economic needs of vulnerable groups, as well as problems related to domestic violence, street violence, exploitation, marginalization, and others. We will help them in their efforts to raise funds and obtain material and we will make others aware of their fight and organizing to solve their problems, and most of all, their example as fighters and resisters against the neoliberal and globalizing model that wants to do away with us.
Lastly, CILAC Freire and CETLALIC will work together to promote and disseminate the Mexican and Latin American cultures, and any culture that seeks to regain and maintain universal human values of respect, tolerance, solidarity, fellowship, inclusion, dignity and acceptance of all types of persons regardless of age, color, race, sexual orientation, religion, origin, class and many more differences that enable us to fulfill the Zapatista ideal of creating a World with Space for Many Worlds.
CILAC Freire faces a very large challenge in gaining its place in our national and international community, but we have no doubt as to their ability and we wish them all the best in these first steps. We also thank them for their support. Their website is www.cilacfreire.mx and their email is cilacfreire@gmail.com. For now we will share spaces.
WELCOME CILAC FREIRE AND A LONG LIFE TO CETLALIC
Yours in solidarity: Jorge Torres, Martha Mata, Mario Garcìa, Francisco Ibarra, Roberto Palacios y Luz Vazquez
